  Question from MJ, Mill Valley CA:

    Dear Coach June:
A year ago my life was changing and moving forward at a wonderful pace. Then the economy took a dive, which effected me in a lot of ways. My question is how to stay on the right path to successfully reach my goals. Often I get overwhelmed and resort to cleaning out a closet or doing laundry so I don't have to face my computer. Knowing there are no new emails from perspective employers and not having the energy to initiate conversations with new people who could help in my career. Could life coaching help?

Dear MJ;
Actually taking your focus off a much sought after goal is not such a bad idea when the results you seek are not manifesting. It is a time to cease movement, regroup and refocus. Right now you are struggling with a sense of failure and fear that nothing will change if you don't stay on top of your goal. Your goal of attaining employment is a priority, but until you can re-ignite your energy or forward your action, keep cleaning out closets and folding laundry. Coach June knows this is the best thing to do at this time. Those kind of tasks can be exactly what is needed for you to come up with new approaches, ideas and retain the balance you need to move forward. Balance is very important in reaching goals and to help with that, and besides the two tasks you are engaged in, create a goal list of about two to four new or not, goals that you can complete. It is perfectly okay to have more than one goal to work on simultaneously, but in different degrees of time and energy. For instance many clients coach for professional goals and then personal issues arise. We make goals surrounding the latter while keeping the former on the back burner for trhe moment. The purpose is to keep faith, positive attitude and continue to experience movement.  MJ, at this time chose another goal that is easier to reach. You need some wins! Mark them as successful in some way. maybe give yourself a gold star for completion or accomplishment. Also, taking focus off your employment goal can lead you to a new path for success, maybe even another career, or goal you never thought of before. Please look at this time as a positive step to becoming your unique self.
